About Us

OUR STORY

Cool Factor started with a question nobody else was asking: what actually happens to your sunscreen when it's sitting in your beach bag in 35 degree heat?

The answer, it turns out, is nothing good.

We're a small independent UK company, and our founders spent way too long reading dermatology journals and independent studies. What they discovered was that heat doesn't just warm your sunscreen up, it chemically degrades it. The UV filters break down, the emulsion separates - and what you're reapplying at 2pm might be doing a fraction of what the bottle promises.

So we built something to fix it.

THE PROBLEM

We love sunscreen and think it's critical for skin protection in the sun. But sunscreen has an optimal temperature range of 15 to 25°C. Below this range, the emulsion can separate and UV filters crystallise creating patchy application that lets UV rays through – we call this the Broken Shield Effect®. Above this, the chemistry actively degrades, making it easier to burn and potentially producing harmful byproducts.

Your beach bag hits neither; (In fact on a hot day it can reach 55°C inside!) Your cool bag with ice packs swings wildly between freezing and too warm.

Both destroy the very thing you're trying to protect.

OUR INNOVATION

DayPod® is the world's first precision temperature-controlled sunscreen bag. Our proprietary C-Core™ thermal insert, independently verified and tested to UK Ministry of Defence standard holds your sunscreen in the Goldilocks Zone™ of 15 to 25°C for up to 11 hours and 45 minutes. Not roughly cool. Precisely controlled - by engineered physics.

Then we noticed something else, which cemented what we thought. The people using DayPod® cooled sunscreen during testing didn't burn at all. Now we aren't claiming that you won't get sunburned using a DayPod ®, but we can confidently say that keeping  sunscreen at the correct temperature range makes a huge difference to how well it actually protects your skin.

SMART DESIGN

Because carrying your sunscreen safely shouldn't mean carrying something ugly. DayPod® features the PhoneCool™ thermally lined front pocket to stop your phone throttling in the heat, a dual collar and cuff closure for maximum thermal performance, and a crossbody design that goes everywhere you do. Beach, pool, festival, market. It doesn't care.

OUR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

We believe the best products look like they mean it. DayPod® is minimal, considered, and built for real life, not a photoshoot. Every detail exists for a reason. Nothing is an afterthought. Even the bit that looks like empty space topped by a drawstring is actually a precision engineered thermal seal. We're a bit OTT like that.

OUR VISION

DayPod® is just the beginning Keep your eyes on more colours, and more sister products that are on the way. Because your skin deserves better than a gamble.

OUR MISSION

To make sunscreen actually work as it was intended...that's it. Science, design, a bit of humour, and absolutely zero compromise on what matters - that's Cool Factor.

So thanks for stopping by. If you have questions, and people always have questions, we're at info@coolfactor.uk. We're a small team and we actually reply. (But not on Sundays - we need at least one day off)

We Didn't Go Easy On It.

We sent DayPod® to a UKAS accredited lab and threw a UK Ministry of Defence thermal standard at it.

DEF-STAN 00-35 - the same test used to qualify equipment for desert deployment. Peak 38°C. Six real bag openings, and a data logger running through the night.

It easily held the Goldilocks Zone™ for 11 hours and 45 minutes. DayPod® doesn't break a sweat in the heat.

Unlike the rest of us.

REACH Compliant? Absolutely.

We don’t just talk a good game about safety - we show receipts.

DayPod® has been independently lab tested across 11 categories under UK and EU REACH regulation, and the results came back exactly how we expected.

Unanimous pass.

Because while we love a bit of humor over here at Cool Factor, when it comes to your safety, we take it very seriously.
